The combination of the E2B2 OEM module and micro-PHP are about as close as possible to a configurable system as it is possible to get today.
Before power is applied it is a static collection of chips and software. But when power is applied it becomes a dynamic reconfigurable system. The E2B2 module has many IO devices and many ethernet and internet protocol libraries but the glue that connects them together is micro-PHP.
When the system starts up it can either read its configuration from a locally stored file or it can pick up its configuration from a server anywhere on the internet. Two similar modules can be configured as completely different ethernet appliances just by downloading a different micro-PHP file.
